Sept. 2016 Nigeria Trip – Day One

We’re On the Ground!

Jim has made it to Nigeria!  Travel went smoothly with an empty seat next to him and all luggage arriving safely.  GTGIM brothers Obi, Charles and Louis were at the airport to greet him and take him to the Baptist House, where Ruby (the “House Mom”) was awaiting their arrival.  Travel can always be tricky in Nigeria, so the fact that everything went exactly as scheduled is truly a blessing from God!

Unfortunately, a severe rain storm kept the team from visiting the Lagos prison today, as well as the SO-SAID women’s home, but as John Piper says: “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, and you may be aware of three of them.” So we’re trusting God’s sovereignty over all things and can say with certainty that those plans were not HIS plans, and HIS plans are always better.  Because of the rain, the GTGIM team was (instead) able to visit the Beth Torrey Home (www.bethtorreyhome.org) as well as attend a widows center in Lagos.

Lastly, GTGIM had the honor of appointing Charles as the La Red representative for the Nigerian Youth Service Corp (NYSC).  Charles has been using the La Red principles in roundtable discussions to share the gospel in his community for a few years now, and has developed a strong heart for the youth in his country.  He has recently been offered the opportunity to train members of the NYSC (similar to the Peace Corp here in the U.S. – a group of college graduates with a desire to impact the nation with righteous living and service) and will be using the La Red principles to reach thousands of young adults to the glory of God!  Charles and his wife are expecting their first child soon, and we ask that you join us in prayer for this young family and their hearts for sharing God’s love in Nigeria!  GTG!
